Will it whistle/feedback when using a mobile phone?

Are NANO hearing aids FDA registered?

Yes, Nano hearing aids are FDA registered. They are Medical Prosthetic Devices classified as Class I.

FDA classification is risk based, that is, the risk the device poses to the patient and/or the user is a major factor in the class it is assigned. Class I includes devices with the lowest risk and Class III includes those with the greatest risk.

Why does NANO not have a physical store where we can try before we buy?

In an effort to cut out the middleman and save you money, we have eliminated all unnecessary costs. Brick and mortar stores with salesmen disguised as audiologists are simply costs that are not necessary. Should I leave my hearing aids in as I go through airport security?

It is not necessary to remove hearing aids at security checkpoints, but you can always ask to be sure.

From January 2019 ALL NANO Hearing Aid devices are digital hearing aids.

In 2018 we offered two amplification models. We no longer sell them, because our hearing aid technology has advanced so much, we only want to offer our customers real, powerful hearing aids.

How do I know which NANO hearing aid is best for me?

You cannot specifically amplify the frequencies you have difficulties with, but you CAN switch between different modes and different volume settings.

All our hearing aids have 2 or more modes, and multiple volume levels, so if you adjust between the different modes and volume settings you should be able to get the perfect sound for you.

Can I change the treble and bass?

The hearing aid devices seem to be all the same, what are the differences and which one is the top of the line / strongest?

The biggest differences are fit and technology.

If you want something that is completely in your ear canal, we recommend our CIC model.

If you prefer a rechargeable BTE device, we recommend the RX2000.

If you want the most powerful, absolute best technology, we recommend our Model X2.

Are NANO hearing aids Bluetooth compatible?

No, they are not Bluetooth compatible because that feature would actually slow down the technology, and inflate the cost of the hearing aid for almost no benefit.

Will NANO hearing aids interfere when using the phone?

No. NANO's hearing aids will not interfere with your TV or phone. In fact, they enhance the sound and make it better!

What are the differences between Model X1 and X2?

The main difference is the Model X2 is almost twice as powerful in every way, but not twice the price.

If you are considering the X line we would highly recommend the Model X2. Its specific decibel gain is over 60+ and it has a 4-channel digital chip with 2 directional microphones. Model X1 is essentially half of all those features.

The Model X2 also has advanced background-noise cancelling technology. It is equivalent to any $5,000 hearing aid on the market (a lot of customers say it is even better).

What is the exact difference between RX2000, RX3000, RX4000, RX5000; these all look the same?

The difference is in the digital chip technology and battery vs rechargeable capability.

If you are looking for something rechargeable, we recommend the RX2000.

If you are looking for something with the smallest behind-the-ear design and amazing sound quality, we recommend RX3000 (battery powered).

Are NANO hearing aids waterproof?

They are not waterproof; they are water resistant.

How can I change modes on my BTE device?

To change the modes on your NANO hearing aid device, please use the following steps (you may not have all these modes options on your device; please go to the ones you have):

  • Speech Mode:
    1. Hold down the “down volume” button for a minimum of 3 seconds until you hear 1 beep.
    2. Once in the mode, you can then change the volume up or down accordingly within the mode.
  • Restaurant Mode:
    1. Hold down the “down volume” button for a minimum of 3 seconds until you hear 2 beeps.
    2. Once in the mode, you can then change the volume up or down accordingly within the mode.
  • Road Noise:
    1. Hold down the “down volume” button for a minimum of 3 seconds until you hear 3 beeps.
    2. Once in the mode, you can then change the volume up or down accordingly within the mode.
  • Outdoor Noise:
    1. Hold down the “down volume” button for a minimum of 3 seconds until you hear 4 beeps.
    2. Once in the mode, you can then change the volume up or down accordingly within the mode.
  • Public Mode:
    1. Hold down the “down volume” button for a minimum of 3 seconds until you hear 1 beep.
    2. Once in the mode, you can then change the volume up or down accordingly within the mode.
  • TV Mode:
    1. Hold down the “down volume” button for a minimum of 3 seconds until you hear 2 beeps.
    2. Once in the mode, you can then change the volume up or down accordingly within the mode.

To reverse the modes, use the Up-Volume button following the same instructions as above.

When the device is turned off, it defaults to lowest or highest volume setting?

When you turn your device on and off, it should remain at the setting is was on last, it should not default to the lowest/highest setting.

Can the noise cancelling feature be turned off?

No, the noise cancelling technology is built into the chip technology, so it cannot be turned off. We are sure this feature will be so helpful, you'll never want to turn it off.

If you are concerned about sound quality or want the absolute best sound quality available, we would recommend our Model X2.

What accessories are included with my NANO hearing aids?

The accessories included with your NANO hearing aids will depend on the model you're purchasing. Here is a list of what is generally included:

  • Set of domes: between 3 and 5 different sized domes, depending on device.
  • Hearing aid slim tubes; or hearing aid sound slim tubes with tip connector; or ear mold hook tubes.
  • Hearing aid brush -with or without magnet-, and wax loop.
  • Small screwdriver.
  • 2 x Batteries (different models depend on device. You can check your batteries here)

What type of batteries does my NANO device take?
How long will the batteries last?

Our CIC batteries last 3-5 days, and all our other models, the batteries last 5-7 days if you wear them about 10 hours per day.

We recommend taking the batteries out at night or opening the battery hatch, to save energy.

You can buy NANO batteries and replace them anytime.

If you are still concerned about battery cost, we recommend our rechargeable RX2000, that could save you over $100/year in battery costs.

Are the earplugs custom made? I have a small canal, the domes/earplugs do not fit in my ear, it keeps falling off

The earplugs are not custom made, but fortunately, we include 3+ different sizes in every order so you can chose the dome size that is right for you.

Our Model X2 would be perfect for you. It is very tiny, fits behind your ear, and the wire that carries the sound into your ear is small. Customers with small ear canals love it!

What is that thing that looks like an antenna? Can I cut it off?

Some hearing aids have a retrieval cord to assist you with the removal of your hearing aids. When the hearing aid is in your ear, grasp the line firmly and pull gently to remove your hearing aid.

Cutting them off will not affect the performance of your device; however, it will void the warranty.

How does the trial period work?

NANO Hearing Aids requires a minimum trial period of 21 days. This minimum trial period is required because medical studies show that your brain requires about three weeks to adjust to new hearing aids.

Your satisfaction is guaranteed. If you are not satisfied with your Nano Hearing Aid, you have 60 days from the date of purchase to return it for an exchange or refund.

However, return requests prior to 21 days from the date of purchase will incur a ten percent (10%) Early Return Fee. Returns after 60 days will not be accepted. All products must include a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number for proper processing. Products returned without an RMA number will incur a 20% No-RMA Fee.

I only need one hearing aid for my right ear, do I still need to buy a full pair?

You do not need to buy a full pair, but we offer ‘Buy 1 Get 1 FREE’ so you are paying for one unit, but will receive a full pair.

ALL of our devices can be used interchangeably. We recommend purchasing the full pair, and keeping the one that you do not use as a backup.

Can I use my insurance to get a pair of NANO hearing aids?

Unfortunately, our devices are not covered under insurance. However, as we have them at such an affordable cost, and we have the option for payment instalments, it should be affordable to anyone!

What is your return policy?

Customers have 60 days to try any device and return it. We strongly recommend you read the NANO return and exchanges policy and contact us if you have any question.

Why do I have to keep my hearing aids for 21 days to get a RMA when I know they do not work?

Your body needs to get use to the hearing aids and this can take a few weeks. Wearing a hearing aids is a new feeling for your ears. Also your hearing perception starts to change and get more stimuli. Your brain will need to re-learn how to filter all the background noises that you had learnt to ignore in the past. So for the first few weeks you may find it a bit hard, but eventually you will get so used to the hearing aids, that you would not even notice them.

Therefore, return requests prior to 21 days from the date of purchase will incur a 10% Early Return Fee.

I want to return my product, why do I have to send it with a RMA number?

If after having tried your new NANO hearing aids, you decide to exchange or return them, please, contact our customer service team to follow the return process. One of our agents will create an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number to quickly identify your return, and provide the instructions you'll need to receive your exchanged device, or refund.

Returning any product without an RMA number WILL INCUR a 20% NO-RMA FEE.

Please Read This Troubleshooting Guide Before Using Your Device!

If you feel that your hearing aids are not working properly, we have found that over 97% of all problems encountered are a result of one of the following 5 simple reasons:

Earwax

The sudden absence of sound from your hearing aids is usually the result of earwax plugging the ear dome or the sound tube. It can be very difficult to see and is the #1 reason why a device will seemingly stop working out of the blue.

Use the cleaning brush and monofilament provided in your accessories kit to remove any earwax from the dome and sound tube. Do this at least once per week to ensure earwax does not build-up.

Low Battery

NANO manufacturers rechargeable hearing aids and battery powered hearing aids. All of NANO’s battery powered devices are “air activated” batteries. After removing the pull-tab sticker remember to wait 1-2 minutes before using the battery to maximize power. This is similar to letting the battery stretch before a long workout.

Low Battery Indication: 􀀠 You will hear beeps indicating that the battery is low and should be replaced (or placed on the charging dock if you have one of NANO’s rechargeable devices).

Low battery can cause a multitude of unusual sounds such as crackling and chirping. A crackling sound can often be corrected by opening and closing the battery door. This can improve the battery contact and “reboot” the digital circuit. If this does not correct the problem, simply replace the battery. Trapped moisture may also cause distortion of the sound. Before going to bed at night open the battery compartment to allow moisture to evaporate.

If you have one of NANO’s rechargeable devices, and it is not working, recharge it for 4 hours.

The light will turn red indicating that your device needs to be charged. When the light turns green, that means it is fully charged and ready for action. To get the best sound quality and use, please ensure your devices are fully charged and/or have new batteries.

Feedback / Whistling

Feedback and whistling sounds are signs that your device is working properly! Now you just need to lower the volume and switch between different modes to find the perfect combination for your environment.

Once you lower the volume and find the perfect environment modes, feedback will be rare. Feedback is most common while you’re putting the hearing aids IN your ear. Once the device is actually in your ear, in many cases the feedback will stop. This is especially true for CIC devices that fits completely in your canal. You need to test putting the device fully in your ear (while enduring a few seconds of feedback), then once your device is fully in your ear, the feedback will often stop.

Whistling occurs when the sound returns to the microphone causing a feedback loop. The most common cause of feedback is a high volume setting with an open dome (earbud). If you require a volume level that is at the highest level, we recommend that you use a “closed dome”.

Alternatively, you can switch between the different modes to reduce the high frequency sound -high frequency sounds are the most likely sounds to cause feedback.

Sound Quality

If you feel like the sound quality sounds weird (like you are in a tunnel, or that you are hearing everything) that’s normal. It often takes up to 6 weeks for the brain to fully adjust to hearing new sounds so give it time. Additionally, each BTE NANO device has different modes for different environments. NANO’s BTE models have 2-4 different sound modes to choose from. Simply hold down the top volume rocker button for 2-3 seconds to change modes (you will hear a beep when the mode changes). This will dramatically improve the sound quality.

Fit

If you feel like the device does not fit right, please change the domes. Each NANO device comes with multiple ear-domes (earbuds) that cover 99% of all ear sizes. Thus, there is an ear-dome that will fit you. Please try them all to get the best fit. If your device seems too big, in many cases, you just need to pick the smallest ear-dome. If your device still does not feel comfortable, email us at hello@nanohearingaids.com and ask about the NANO Protection Plan (add link to the webpage)/FAQ) which allows you to exchange to any of NANO’s models. Additionally, you can purchase extra accessories (there are not extra accessories on the webpage)
